JOB DESCRIPTION

Title:  Executive Director – Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC)

REPORTS TO:  Board of the Directors (BOD)

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC), a private not-for-profit service organization located in Barnstable County, Massachusetts (Cape Cod), seeks a seasoned and dynamic leader to serve as Executive Director. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod provides year-round programs and services to individual artists, cultural organizations, arts educators, residents and visitors to the region.

The Executive Director serves as the chief administrative officer and manager of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod; reports to and works collaboratively with the President and the Board of Directors (BOD) to advance the mission of Cape Cod’s regional arts agency; directs and administers all programs, operations and policies; supervises a professional staff of four; and manages the AFCC’s annual budget.

Primary areas of responsibility include: • Resource Development – serves as chief development officer of the AFCC; develops private and public sector fundraising initiatives; identifies and pursues grant funding; maintains strong relationships with current and prospective donors

 • Communications – serves as the spokesperson for the AFCC; supervises websites, newsletters, bulletins, and press releases where appropriate

• Budget and Finance – prepares an annual operating budget, relates budget to program goals, and manages all funds with the Board of Directors

 • Community Relations – maintains close ties with other groups in the region and advises on issues related to arts and culture; represents AFCC at speaking engagements and public events

• Program Development and Management – develops, implements, and supervises arts programs and services that are consistent with the organizational mission and that meet the needs of constituents.

 • Staff Management -- hires, supervises and evaluates staff

 • Long-Range Planning – maintains continuity and consistency in programming; reflects on and responds to community and constituent needs and challenges; recommends sustainable AFCC and community programs to meet these needs.

Requirements

Experience/Qualifications: • BA; Masters Degree in a relevant field is a plus. • At least 5 years management experience, preferably in a nonprofit organization,= significant experience in the arts or a related area is a plus; knowledge of the Cape Cod arts community is a plus; prior success as President or Executive Director with similar responsibilities is preferred. • Proven record as a successful fundraiser. • Outstanding written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. • Strong planning, organizational and analytical skills. • Ability to positively motivate, lead, and develop staff, board, and volunteers. • Ability to work collaboratively with all sectors of the community, the Board of Directors and staff.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is the regional arts agency for Barnstable County, has been the Voice of the Arts on Cape Cod since 1988. The AFCC strengthens, supports, and promotes Cape Cod's arts and culture community through grants, professional development, training, collaborative marketing, and advocacy.

Internships Available

Come and be a part of the exciting creative community on Cape Cod.  The internship program at the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod provides an unequaled introduction into the varied and exciting work of a regional arts agency that serves artists and arts lovers, cultural organizations and those who support them.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod hosts a trimester internship program for qualified college students and recent graduates. The internships are unpaid, but provide a thorough and valuable introduction into a multidisciplinary art world and to the workings of an independent, established, regional arts non-profit organization. Applications are accepted year-round. 

Positions include:

Design and Media Services Intern


Put your skills to work designing post cards, posters, and web-based newsletters. Maintain our list of press contacts and media outlets. Help promote the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod through print and electronic media.

Administration and Development Intern

Learn about the daily operations of a regional arts agency - working with members, the media, sponsors, and the public. Projects will vary widely, from the planning and execution of special events, exhibits, and musical performances, to the maintenance of our databases of artists and arts educators.
