“For the fifth year in a row, Comcast is proud to recognize the importance of arts education on Cape Cod by providing scholarship funding to student artists and their high school art departments,” said Tom Coughlin, Regional Vice-President for Comcast in Southeastern Massachusetts.  “This is a great opportunity for local students to showcase their artistic ability and see their masterpieces come to life.”

“The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is thrilled that Comcast is continuing their generous long-term commitment to support this important Cape-wide scholarship program for young artists,” said Margaret Van Sciver, AFCC Board President.  “These scholarships honor and fund both the individual students as well their sponsoring art departments, which makes this program unique in the region.”

The Pops by the Sea concert will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. August 3, 2008 on the Hyannis Village Green.  The event marks the only Cape Cod appearance of Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.  Proceeds generated by the concert support the programs of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.

The contest is open to all high school and middle school students living on Cape Cod, including those in public, parochial, private, charter, and technical schools. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2008, and winners will be announced by May 12, 2008.

Subject matter should reflect the theme of “people enjoying music by the sea.” Original art work on paper is encouraged, but original, computer-generated graphic art will be accepted.  Entries will be judged by a panel of distinguished community leaders and local artists.
