Rockapella to Perform at Pops by the Sea Concert

Centerville, MA, March 6, 2006 - Centerville, MA, March 6, 2006 - The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod (AFCC) announced today that the a cappella singing group Rockapella will join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra at the 21st Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert. Although the five-man vocal ensemble has toured nationally and internationally, this marks the group’s first appearance on Cape Cod.

The five-man vocal phenomenon, known for their infectious blend of soul, rock, rhythm & blues, entertained millions of fans of all ages during their five years as the house band on the hit PBS show Where In The World is Carmen Sandiego? Rockapella, known as the kings of contemporary a cappella, consists of five technically trained musicians: Scott Leonard on high tenor, Kevin Wright on tenor, Jeff Thacher as vocal percussionist, George Baldi as bassist, and John K. Brown on tenor.

The group was formed for the sheer love of performing. While singing on New York City street corners with a hat out at their feet, they were tapped for a television special titled Do It a Cappella, hosted by filmmaker Spike Lee. This in turn led to daily appearances on Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? Since then, Rockapella has become an international sensation, touring throughout the United States and Japan, with 2006 marking their European tour debut. Rockapella has released 20 albums over the last 18 years.

The TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert is scheduled for August 6, 2006, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Hyannis Village Green, and features the only Cape Cod appearance of Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, joined this year on the podium by celebrity guest conductor William Shatner.

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is now accepting reservations for Corporate Sponsorships and VIP Tables of ten for the 21st Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea, August 6, 2006. Festival Seat Tickets ($50) and General Admission Lawn Tickets ($15) are on sale online and by phone from the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. Proceeds support the programs of the AFCC.
