Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Awards $30,000 in Grants
Funding Distributed to Local Artists and Cultural Organizations
Centerville, MA, April 17, 2007 - The Board of Directors of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod is pleased to announce the recipients of the 2007 Spring Grant Awards. Nineteen local artists and cultural organizations will receive a total of $30,000 in grants at a special reception from 6 to 8 pm on Thursday, May 3 at Cape Cod Academy in Osterville.
“The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grant program provides critical support to both start-up ventures and expansions of existing programs,” said Lisa Hergenrother, Executive Director of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. “We are proud to provide significant financial support each year to the arts and culture community.”
“This year’s record level of grant awards is made possible due to the continued success of the TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea, the year-round support of our sustaining partner TD Banknorth, and our generous and dedicated sponsors and volunteers,” said Margaret Van Sciver, Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Board President. “Their support of our year-round programming allows the Arts Foundation to strengthen and promote the arts and culture of Cape Cod in such a meaningful way.”
The Spring 2007 Grant recipients and projects are:
Liz Argo, for completion of her documentary film on the Orleans Arena Theater, Summer Stock Story, $1,500
ArtsFalmouth, Inc., for live musical entertainment at the opening night of the Arts Alive Festival , $1,000
Big & Small Mask Troupe, Inc., in support of a General Movement and Mask-Making Workshop for ages 55 and up with the Prometheus Dance Company, $1,000
Cahoon Museum of American Art, in support of a major juried art exhibition in 2007, $2,000
Cape Cod Art Association, to purchase 25 child-friendly digital cameras and printing equipment for the program Art in Nature, Nature in Art, teaching children to photograph nature, a collaboration with the Cape Cod Museum of Natural History, $750
Cape Cod Community College Educational Foundation, Inc., to bring sculptor and painter Heather Blume to the Artist-in-Residence program at the Higgins Art Gallery, $2,000
Cape Cod Conservatory of Music and Arts, Inc., for the expansion of therapeutic art and music programs for individuals with special needs, $2,000
Cape Cod Lighthouse Charter School, Side-By-Side, an intergenerational clay workshop in which Brewster students will create ceramic pottery and sculpture with senior citizens of Brewster, $1,225
Chatham Chorale, in support of Why I Wake Early, a cycle of choral songs by Ronald Perera, with text by Cape Cod poet Mary Oliver in honor of Margaret Bossi's 20th season as musical director, $1,275
Falmouth Artist Guild, Inc., for the Afternoon Art series of art classes for children ages 3 through 14, $2,100
Rick Fleury, to support the second year of Stone Soup, a salon-style lecture and discussion series, $750
Nye Family of America Association, Inc., to assist with the replacement of stage curtains in the East Sandwich Grange Hall, $1,460
Pope John Paul II High School, for the restoration and preservation of five historic wall murals by Vernon Coleman in the old Barnstable High School building in Hyannis, $1,500
Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theater Festival, to support a collaboration between Wellfleet playwright Wendy Kesselman and Provincetown artist Jim Peters to produce the new play, The Foggy Foggy Dew, $3,000
Shakespeare on the Cape, for Kiddie Shakes, an edited, one-hour-long narrated version of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, $2,500
The Sturgis Charter Public High School, for the purchase of Djembes to promote the study of African music and theatre, $1,440
Thornton W. Burgess Society, for the creation of exhibit gallery space in the Green Briar Nature Center building to mount changing exhibitions, $2,000
Wellfleet Preservation Hall, Inc., for a collaboration with the Cape Cod Museum of Art to present an exhibit featuring previously unknown works by Jonathan Kendall, $1,000
Woods Hole Film Festival, Inc., to bring expert panelists to the festival on video, the internet, and media literacy, $1,500

Arts Foundation of Cape Cod grants are awarded to support projects that help create a strong, stable, and diverse cultural community on Cape Cod and that contribute to the quality of life and economic vitality of the region.
