Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Announces Ray Romano Celebrity Guest Conductor for Pops by the Sea
Centerville, MA, June 19, 2007 - The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has announced that Ray Romano will be the Celebrity Guest Conductor for the 22nd Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert. An acclaimed actor, comedian, producer, and writer, Mr. Romano will join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra at the annual concert on the Hyannis Village Green on Sunday, August 5, 2007.
“We are thrilled to honor Mr. Romano and welcome him to Cape Cod’s most anticipated cultural event of the year,” said Margaret Van Sciver, Board President of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. “Mr. Romano is a tremendous talent who has entertained television, movie, and live audiences around the globe, and it will be a unique privilege for all of us attending the Pops by the Sea concert on the Hyannis Town Green in August to experience him in this new role."
Romano made his start in stand up comedy in 1984, and eventually landed appearances on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson, the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, and the David Letterman show.
As Ray Barone on the CBS hit show Everybody Loves Raymond, Ray Romano was part of one of the most respected sitcoms in television history and has won the most prestigious awards in the business, including several Emmys, as well as Screen Actor Guild (SAG), American Comedy, TV Guide, Television Critics, and People’s Choice Awards.
Ray made his big screen debut as the voice of “Manny” the woolly mammoth in the 20th Century Fox hit Ice Age, and starred in the follow-up hit Ice Age: The Meltdown. He has also starred in Eulogy, Welcome To Mooseport, with Gene Hackman, Grilled with Kevin James and Burt Reynolds, and 95 Miles to Go, an autobiographical documentary of his life on tour.
He is the author of the New York Times best-selling book based on his comedy, “Everything And A Kite” and “Raymie, Dickie, and The Bean: Why I Love and Hate My Brothers,” a children’s book he co-wrote with his brothers Bobby and Rich Romano, which was nominated for a Grammy in 2006 for Best Spoken Word album. His comedy album, “Live at Carnegie Hall,” was nominated for a Grammy in 2002. He lives in Los Angeles with his wife and four children.
The TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert is scheduled for August 5, 2007, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Hyannis Village Green, featuring the only Cape Cod appearance of Keith Lockhart and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra. Festival Seat Tickets ($50) and General Admission Lawn Tickets ($15) can be purchased online at www.artsfoundation.org or in person after July 2 at Cape Cod branches of TD Banknorth, Puritan, and Christmas Tree Shops, and at the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce. Proceeds support the programs of the AFCC.
