Centerville, MA, March 5, 2007 - The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has named renowned Cape Cod artist Sergio Roffo guest artist of the 22nd Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert. Roffo has been commissioned to create this year’s commemorative painting and limited edition lithograph, which will be unveiled at a special reception in his honor in May.

"Sergio Roffo is the ideal artist to create a unique and memorable image for the 22nd Annual Pops by the Sea concert," said Maggie Van Sciver, AFCC board president. "His coastal landscapes are widely admired and highly collectable, and we are thrilled to honor him as this year’s guest artist.”

“I am delighted to join the roster of distinguished artists who have been honored in this way by the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod,” said Mr. Roffo. “The Cape Cod arts community benefits a great deal from the success of Pops by the Sea, and I am proud to contribute to that success.”

Limited edition prints of the work will be available during the TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert, Sunday, August 5th on the Hyannis Village Green. The annual concert features the only Cape Cod appearance of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart.

Born in San Donato, Italy, in 1953, Sergio Roffo came to America with his family in 1961. He received his artistic education at the Vesper George School of Art, where his teachers included leading Boston School artist Robert Douglas Hunter. After graduation, Roffo studied figurative work with Hunter’s contemporary, Robert Cormier. He then worked for several years as a freelance commercial artist, while continuing to explore his passion for painting in the field and for landscapes.

Roffo began to focus exclusively on his gallery art in the 1990s, and since then his style has developed into a crisp and elegant interpretation of the classic landscape. His work has been consistently recognized in open juried competition, and his accomplishments include more than ten major awards in regional and national shows. Roffo is an elected “Fellows” member of the American Society of Marine Artists and of the Guild of Boston Artists, where he was given a solo exhibition in 1998. He was the youngest artist ever to be honored as a Copley Master by the Copley Society in Boston.

Roffo’s original work for Pops by the Sea and his first two lithographs will be sold at the Pops by the Sea VIP reception on Saturday, August 4, 2007. Signed, limited-edition fine art prints are available for sale at the concert and thereafter at the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. The prints are produced using a process developed exclusively for fine art printing, incorporating the latest technology to produce the highest quality archival prints available, depicting a brilliant color range that captures the subtlety of the original work.
