The TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert is Cape Cod's single largest cultural event.  For each of the past twenty-two years we have welcomed one of the nation's finest and best-loved musical ensembles -- the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra -- to the Hyannis Village Green for their only Cape Cod appearance.

Henry Winkler will be the Celebrity Guest Conductor for the 23^rd Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert.  An acclaimed actor, director, producer, and award-winning author, Mr. Winkler will join the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra at the annual concert on the Hyannis Village Green on Sunday, August 3, 2008.

“I am delighted to join the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod for Pops by the Sea,” said Mr. Winkler.  “I’m very much looking forward to conducting a world-class orchestra, and to returning to Cape Cod. What a pleasure it will be to spend a summer evening with an audience of people who love music and art as much as my family and I do.”

“We are thrilled to honor Mr. Winkler and welcome him to Cape Cod’s most anticipated cultural event of the year,” said Margaret Van Sciver, Board President of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod. “Mr. Winkler is an international television and movie icon, a respected author, and a recognized philanthropist, and it will be a unique privilege for all of us attending the Pops by the Sea concert on the Hyannis Town Green in August to welcome him in this new role."

Mr. Winkler’s television portrayal of “The Fonz” for 10 seasons made him one of the most recognized actors in the world. He won two consecutive Golden Globe Awards for Best Actor in a Comedy Series, and three Emmy nominations in the same category. He has been honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

In 2003, Mr. Winkler began writing a series of 14 children’s novels with his partner, Lin Oliver, for Penguin Putnam called Hank Zipzer: The World’s Greatest Under-Achiever. The books are inspired by Mr. Winkler’s struggle throughout his early life due to his learning challenges.  The first ten books of the series are in bookstores now and have sold over 2 million copies to date.  His books have appeared on several best seller lists, including The Los Angeles Times Sunday Book Review and Barnes and Noble. 

Guest Artist
Jon Friedman

The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod has named Truro artist Jon Friedman guest artist of the 23rd Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert.  Friedman has been commissioned to create this year’s commemorative painting and limited edition lithograph, which will be unveiled at a gala reception in his honor in May. 

The original painting will also be on display at TD Banknorth on Main Street in Hyannis from June 1 until August 2, when it will be auctioned at a special VIP reception on the Hyannis Village Green.

Limited edition prints of the work will be available during the TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert, Sunday, August 3rd on the Hyannis Village Green.  The annual concert features the only Cape Cod appearance of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart.

Rick Angelini

Rick Angelini has been named Honorary Chair of the 23^rd Annual TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert.  The annual concert features the only Cape Cod appearance of the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart.

“Rick is a fantastic selection for the 2008 Honorary Chair of the TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea.  Rick has been instrumental in the success of this event for many years, both as a member of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod Board of Directors and the Pops by the Sea Steering Committee, and has done a great deal to increase the involvement of the business community in the region’s largest annual cultural event,” said Maggie Van Sciver, Board President of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.  “Rick is a tireless volunteer and we are thrilled to add him to the roster of accomplished Pops by the Sea honorary chairpersons.”

Rick is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod and serves on the Pops by the Sea Steering Committee.  He is a past chairman and current board member of the Cape & Islands United Way, past president and current board member of the Hyannis Area Chamber of Commerce, and board member of the Hyannis Business Improvement District.

Festival Seats

Every Festival Seat has a wonderful view of the stage and the Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra, and these seats are neither numbered nor assigned.

Festival Seats are also purchased in bulk by local groups, and by tour companies representing groups from all over the country who incorporate the concert into a weekend schedule of events.  Festival Seats are located immediately behind the VIP tables.

VIP tables of ten, priced at $1,800, $2,400, and $3,000 each, are now available for 2008!

Rectrix Free Tickets Program

Thanks to the generosity of Rectrix Aerodrome Centers, the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod will donate 1,300 free TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea concert tickets to local families.

Through this unique and valuable program, over thirty nonprofit health and human services agencies across Cape Cod will provide free family lawn seating for their selected clients to the 23rd Annual Pops by the Sea concert on Sunday, August 3, at 5:00 p.m. 

The free tickets will be available through the Adopt a Foster Family Program of the Cape Cod Council of Churches, American Red Cross, Barnstable Fatherhood Program, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod and the Islands, The Boys and Girls Club of Cape Cod, Cape and Islands Council Boy Scouts of America, The Cape and Islands Office of the Department of Social Services, Cape Cod Child Development, Cape Cod Children's Place, Cape Cod Human Services, Cape Cod Literacy Council, Cape Head Injured Persons’ Housing and Education Group, Inc., Cape Regency Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, capeAbilities, CHAMP Homes, Children’s Cove, Essex Pavilion, Girl Scout Council of Southeastern Massachusetts, Gosnold on Cape Cod, Health Care of Southeastern Massachusetts, Hospice & Palliative Care of Cape Cod, Housing Assistance Corporation, Independence House, Massachusetts Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children – Cape & Islands Chapter, Outer Cape Health Services, The Penikese Island School, Safe Harbor, Salvation Army in Hyannis, Sight Loss Services, South Coastal Counties Legal Services, Windsor Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the YMCA of Cape Cod.   

Other nonprofit health and human services organizations may apply for inclusion in this program by emailing RectrixFamilyTix@artsfoundation.org.  Those interested in obtaining the free tickets must contact one of the organizations listed above, not the Arts Foundation of Cape Cod.  All free tickets will be distributed through the Rectrix Free Tickets Program partner organizations, not through the AFCC.

The TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea Concert needs you!

The TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea couldn't happen without the support of hundreds of volunteers. Each volunteer will receive two General Admission Lawn tickets (one for the volunteer and one for a guest), a TD Banknorth Pops by the Sea T-shirt featuring the Comcast Student T-shirt Contest award-winning design, and cold beverages provided by the Coca Cola Bottling Company of Cape Cod – and you will have a great time too.

Proceeds from this concert enable the Arts Foundation to fulfill its mission to support, promote, and celebrate the arts and culture of Cape Cod year-round. The Arts Foundation of Cape Cod provides artistic, cultural, and educational programs, such as the Passport to the Arts, a collaborative marketing program that introduces new audiences to the cultural treasures on Cape Cod at a reduced price, and our grants program, which supports those who create, foster, and promote art and culture in our community.
